Speaking during a conversation with actress Tracee Ellis Ross in Brooklyn, Obama said, “As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready.” She emphasized that many men still struggle with the idea of being led by a woman, which was evident in the election outcome.
Obama made it clear that she has no intentions of running for president herself, telling Ross, “Don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not.” The conversation was part of a promotional event for her new book, “The Look,” which explores her fashion and political experiences during the Obama presidency.
Obama had actively campaigned for Harris in the 2024 race, warning about the risks posed by former President Donald Trump, particularly regarding women’s rights and health care. At a Michigan rally, she urged voters not to hand the country’s future to Trump, describing a vote for him as a vote against women’s health and worthiness. Despite Harris demonstrating readiness for leadership, Obama questioned whether society is prepared for such a historic moment.
