During a Miss Universe 2025 pre-pageant event in Bangkok, a controversy erupted when Nawat Itsaragrisil, the Miss Universe Thailand director, publicly reprimanded Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, harshly criticizing her for not posting mandated promotional content. The confrontation escalated as Bosch defended herself, leading Nawat to call security and threaten disqualification of contestants supporting her. This led Bosch to exit the event, followed by multiple contestants who showed solidarity with her by walking out together.

The incident, captured live and widely shared on social media, sparked outrage among fans and participants alike. The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) condemned Nawat’s “malicious” behavior and announced a delegation of international executives to take over the event’s management. MUO President Raul Rocha issued a video apology, denouncing Nawat’s actions as disrespectful and humiliating, and confirmed plans to curtail his involvement and pursue legal measures against him.

Responding to the backlash, Nawat apologized publicly, acknowledging the emotional impact of his words on contestants present. He claimed some of his remarks had been misunderstood but expressed regret and pledged collaboration with the MUO team arriving in Thailand.

Among those who walked out was reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, who emphasized that the incident was about standing up for women’s rights and dignity, stating that disrespecting another contestant was beyond acceptable conduct. Bosch herself reaffirmed her commitment to using her platform to advocate for women’s empowerment and equality, asserting that she would not be silenced.

Despite the turmoil, the pageant has continued, with contestants participating in further events ahead of the final scheduled for November 21. The controversy illuminated broader issues surrounding professionalism and respect within high-profile competitions while highlighting the resilience of the contestants who chose to speak out.
