A recent global safety survey has highlighted striking contrasts in which countries are considered the safest versus the least safe in 2025. At the top end, nations with strong social support systems, low crime rates and stable governmental institutions dominate. By contrast, countries grappling with conflict, instability and weak institutions find themselves near the bottom of the leaderboard.
Scores are influenced by multiple factors: levels of societal safety, the extent of domestic and international conflict, and how militarised a nation is. Countries that maintain reliable law-enforcement, social trust and minimal military conflict tend to score far better.
On the safer side, a cluster of European and Asia-Pacific nations consistently ranks high thanks to their peaceful societies and robust civic systems. Meanwhile, the least safe countries often face serious internal turmoil, high levels of unrest and institutional fragility.
The findings indicate a widening gap between the safest and least safe countries — underscoring how governance, social cohesion and conflict-management deeply influence a nation’s standing on the global safety index.
