During his Asia tour, President Trump witnessed the signing of a significant cease-fire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, held at a ceremony on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit. The pact formalises previously brokered peace talks and aims to end longstanding border clashes between the two nations.
At the ceremony, Thailand agreed to release Cambodian prisoners while Cambodia committed to withdrawing heavy artillery from contested border zones. Trump described the agreement as proof of America’s commitment to peace and partnership in the region.
Accompanying the peace deal, the president also announced a suite of trade and mineral-supply arrangements with regional partners. He emphasised that the United States is ready to be a “strong partner and friend” to Southeast Asia, underscoring both economic and security dimensions of the visit.
While optimism runs high, analysts caution that under-the-surface tensions remain. Effective monitoring of the agreement’s implementation and regional cooperation will be crucial to ensuring that the truce holds and delivers long-term stability.
