Vijaye Raji, founder and CEO of Statsig, has been appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Applications at OpenAI after the startup was acquired in a deal valued at about $1.1 billion. The acquisition strengthens OpenAI’s capabilities in product experimentation, infrastructure engineering, and rapid feature deployment.
Statsig is known for its tools in A/B testing, feature flagging, and real-time decisioning—systems that help companies learn quickly what works and what doesn’t. In his new role, Raji will lead engineering efforts across major OpenAI products like ChatGPT and Codex, as well as core internal systems related to infrastructure and integrity. He will report to Fidji Simo, the head of OpenAI’s applications division.
Raji brings to OpenAI a rich leadership background: before founding Statsig, he worked in engineering leadership roles at major tech companies, helping build and scale large consumer platforms. The acquisition is structured as an all-stock deal. Statsig will continue to operate from its Seattle base, serving its existing customers, even as it becomes part of OpenAI’s broader engineering organization.
This move signals OpenAI’s intent to sharpen its focus on not just building cutting-edge models, but ensuring those models are effectively turned into reliable, impactful, and well-engineered products that serve millions of users.
