Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a major change in its U.S. hiring strategy. The company will no longer recruit new employees under the H-1B visa program and will instead focus on hiring local talent. CEO K. Krithivasan stated that TCS already employs a significant number of H-1B professionals in the U.S. and will now expand its workforce by strengthening its domestic hiring efforts.
Traditionally, TCS has operated by placing employees from India in U.S. client roles through H-1B visas and later transitioning them to local positions. The company now plans to review visa renewals on a case-by-case basis while emphasizing a long-term shift toward hiring locally in key markets such as the United States and Europe.
Krithivasan added that TCS already depends primarily on local employees in other regions, including Latin America, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. He noted that as artificial intelligence becomes a core component of new business solutions, future projects will require a blend of technical expertise, innovation, and closer collaboration with clients.
Industry experts believe this move will significantly reduce TCS’s reliance on H-1B visas and could lead to a greater focus on intra-company transfers using L-1 visas. The decision also aligns with TCS’s broader goal of building a diverse, globally integrated workforce that adapts to regional employment trends.
