Google’s AI model Gemini 2.5 Deep Think has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning gold at the 2025 ICPC World Finals, one of the world’s most prestigious university coding competitions. The system successfully solved 10 out of 12 problems, including one that no human team managed to complete during the contest.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai described the accomplishment as a “profound leap” in abstract reasoning and complex problem-solving, emphasizing how rapidly AI capabilities are advancing.
The contest followed official ICPC rules, with Gemini competing remotely under the same five-hour time limit as human participants. Starting ten minutes later than the other teams, Gemini managed to solve eight problems within the first 45 minutes and added two more in the remaining time. Its performance demonstrated not just speed, but also advanced reasoning abilities that are setting new benchmarks for artificial intelligence in competitive environments.
