Google is preparing to invest approximately $15 billion over the next five years to build its first major artificial intelligence (AI) hub in India, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This move marks one of the company’s largest foreign investments outside the U.S.
The planned hub will include a gigawatt-scale data center campus, expanded fiber-optic networks, clean energy infrastructure, and a new international subsea cable landing point on India’s east coast. This subsea gateway is intended to diversify connectivity routes and strengthen India’s digital backbone.
The project is being developed in partnership with Airtel and AdaniConneX (a joint venture of Adani Enterprises). Officials expect the hub to generate thousands of direct jobs and many more in ancillary roles, boosting the local tech ecosystem and accelerating AI adoption across the country.
Google sees the investment as a cornerstone for enabling innovative services and scaling AI capabilities for Indian enterprises, developers, and citizens. Authorities believe this facility will position Visakhapatnam as a key node in global data infrastructure, and contribute substantially to India’s digital economy ambitions.
