DUBLIN, PA — From a simple idea sparked among friends to a thriving force in the world of competitive robotics, Blast Robotics (Team 10989) is quickly becoming a name to watch. Co-founded by Vivaan Ponugoti, who also serves as team captain of Keystone STEM Alliance, Inc., the group exemplifies youth-driven excellence and innovation in STEM education.
“Our history is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation,” said Ponugoti. “We are a group of dedicated students passionate about robotics, engineering, and making a positive impact in our community through the FIRST Robotics Competition.”
Team Origins and Milestones
Founded just three months ago in May, Blast Robotics was launched by a group of young Indian American students in Pennsylvania. The team quickly established its presence, launching an official website and meeting with the Executive Director of FIRST Mid-Atlantic on June 19, 2025. Days earlier, on June 16, the team initiated a GoFundMe campaign to secure essential equipment and cover travel expenses for their debut season.
Engineering Excellence and Skill Development
· Design & Build: The team engineers and constructs competitive robots using advanced CAD design, machining, and manufacturing techniques.
· Programming & Controls: Members develop both autonomous and teleoperated control systems using Java and sophisticated programming tools.
· Global Competition: Blast Robotics competes in regional and world championship events, taking on some of the best teams globally.
· Skill Building: Students hone technical, leadership, and teamwork abilities through hands-on projects and collaborative challenges.
· Recognition: The team is already earning recognition for engineering excellence, innovation, and their commitment to gracious professionalism.
Community Engagement and Outreach
Blast Robotics is not just about building robots—they are deeply engaged in their community. The team has built strong partnerships with local educators and organizations, and volunteered over 300 hours so far. Their outreach includes inspiring younger students through STEM demonstrations, workshops, and mentorships, notably working alongside FRC Teams 1712, 1640, and 1168.
Achievements and Support
· Funding: Raised over $14,000 in donations and grants from Isolite, Comcast, and the Department of Defense.
· Summer Camp: Organized a camp for 4th through 9th graders, raising an additional $2,500.
· Facilities: Established a workshop with the help of Eadeh Enterprises, a local real estate company.
· Community Service: Volunteered with the Berwyn Fire Company on the Paver Construction Project for their new building.
Looking Ahead
The team is planning to expand its student-run programs to reach even more school-aged children and aims to reach a $30,000 budget and 500 hours of service by December. These goals will prepare them to compete and qualify for the upcoming FIRST Robotics Competition, all while amplifying their positive impact in the community.
