US President Donald Trump declared that the United States possesses enough nuclear weapons to annihilate the world 150 times over. The statement came in the wake of Trump’s unsuccessful bid for the Nobel Peace Prize, despite his assertions that he had prevented eight wars. Defending the decision to resume nuclear tests after a 33-year hiatus, Trump cited similar secret tests conducted by China, Russia, North Korea, and Pakistan.
During an interview at Mar-a-Lago with CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell, Trump emphasized America’s status as the holder of the largest nuclear arsenal globally, noting that rivals like Russia and China are aggressively expanding their own stockpiles. He underscored the need for nuclear testing to ensure the functionality and safety of the US arsenal.
“Testing is necessary because other countries — Russia, China, North Korea, Pakistan — are conducting tests,” Trump stated. He expressed reluctance for the US to be the only nation refraining from nuclear testing, highlighting the transparency of the US compared to other countries, which conduct their tests clandestinely.
Trump recounted various achievements attributed to his presidency, including resolving conflicts like the India-Pakistan military standoff and showing willingness to mediate in ongoing wars to save lives.
