Since January 2025, over 2,790 Indian nationals who were illegally residing in the United States have been deported and sent back to India, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This figure was shared by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a weekly media briefing on October 30. Authorities thoroughly verified the nationality and credentials of each individual before facilitating their return.
The spokesperson also stated that around 100 Indian nationals have been deported from the United Kingdom this year after their nationality was similarly confirmed.
The deportations are part of ongoing cooperative efforts between Indian and international authorities to manage illegal migration. Notably, detentions of Indians attempting to enter the US illegally have dropped to a four-year low, with Customs and Border Protection reporting a 62% decrease in such cases between October 2024 and September 2025.
Reports highlight specific instances of deportations, such as 54 individuals from Haryana who used the “donkey route” — a notorious path employed by traffickers — to enter the US illegally before being sent back.
These developments reflect heightened enforcement measures and diplomatic coordination aimed at addressing the challenges of illegal crossings and visa overstays involving Indian nationals.
