A local councilman in Palm Bay, Florida, Chandler Langevin, has come under heavy criticism after posting a series of anti-Indian statements on social media. Langevin, who took office last year, accused Indian immigrants of coming to the United States to “drain our pockets” and later returning to their country or remaining without contributing to society.
In one of his posts, he claimed that “there’s not a single Indian that cares about the United States,” a comment that triggered outrage across social media and among community organizations.
The Palm Bay City Council responded by voting 3-2 to formally censure Langevin for his remarks. During the council meeting, Mayor Rob Medina reminded everyone that America is a nation built by immigrants and emphasized that divisive rhetoric has no place in public service.
Langevin later attempted to clarify that his comments were directed at temporary visa holders, not the entire Indian community. However, his explanation did little to calm the backlash. Several advocacy groups and residents labeled his statements as discriminatory and harmful, calling for accountability from elected officials.
The city council has also urged Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to review the matter and consider removing Langevin from office. The incident has reignited debate on racism, immigration, and the responsibilities of public representatives in maintaining inclusivity and respect for all communities.
