A group of Catholic sisters in New York has publicly criticized Archbishop Timothy Dolan for likening conservative activist Charlie Kirk to a modern-day Saint Paul. The Sisters of Charity of New York issued a statement condemning Dolan’s remarks, made during an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” where he described Kirk as a “missionary” and “evangelist.”
The sisters expressed concern that Dolan’s comparison could mislead Catholics about the true witness of the Gospel. They pointed out that Kirk’s history includes inflammatory rhetoric, such as criticism of Catholicism, and promotion of views that contradict the sisters’ values, including support for hardline immigration policies and Christian nationalism.
In contrast, the Sisters of Charity emphasized their commitment to welcoming immigrants, defending LGBTQ+ rights, and advocating for peace. They reaffirmed their mission to walk with marginalized communities and to promote authentic discipleship.
