India’s flagship carrier, Air India, has entered into a codeshare agreement with Kazakhstan’s national airline, Air Astana, to strengthen travel links between the two countries. Under this deal, Air India will place its “AI” code on flights operated by Air Astana between Almaty–Delhi and Almaty–Mumbai.

Thanks to this partnership, travellers will enjoy seamless service: single tickets, baggage check-through from origin to Almaty, and improved coordination. This move builds on an earlier interline agreement between the airlines earlier this year.

Air India’s CEO stated that the new codeshare enhances tourism, trade, and people-to-people connections with Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, Air Astana’s leadership called India a key strategic market, emphasizing strong existing demand among tourists, students, and business travellers. The agreement will progressively become available for booking once necessary regulatory approvals are in place, through Air India’s website, app, and travel agents.
