Luxembourg has secured the top position in the 2025 Global Retirement Index for healthcare, marking its second consecutive year at the forefront. The index, compiled by global financial institution Natixis, evaluates countries based on life expectancy, health expenditure per capita, and out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Luxembourg achieved a score of 94%, reflecting its commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to retirees.
The country’s healthcare system is characterized by substantial insured health expenditure and a notable increase in life expectancy, which rose by four percentage points. Additionally, Luxembourg boasts a low road traffic death rate of just 3.9 per 100,000 people and zero cases of unintentional poisoning, underscoring its safety and health standards.
Following Luxembourg, other top-ranking countries for healthcare in retirement include Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland. In contrast, the United States ranked 25th, with a score of 84%, showing improvement from the previous year’s score of 80%.
