Google CEO Sundar Pichai has warned that artificial intelligence will reshape nearly every profession—and that adapting to this transformation will be the responsibility of everyday people, not just governments or corporations.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Pichai described artificial intelligence as the most powerful innovation humanity has ever developed. While he believes the technology holds extraordinary promise, he also acknowledged that large-scale disruption is unavoidable.
“AI has the potential to deliver unprecedented benefits,” Pichai said, “but as a society, we will have to navigate the disruption it brings.”
AI’s Reach Will Extend to Every Job—Even the CEO’s
Pichai revealed that no profession is immune to automation—not even his own. Contrary to popular belief that only entry-level or repetitive roles are at risk, he believes that nearly all occupations will be influenced by AI in some form.

Young professionals are already feeling the pressure. Since the launch of ChatGPT, U.S. job postings have dropped by roughly 32%, according to Federal Reserve data. At the same time, the proportion of Gen Z employees at large tech firms has declined sharply.
Even traditionally “safe” careers such as software engineering are seeing reduced hiring, while companies are racing to introduce humanoid robots and automated systems into physical labor.
This uncertainty has led many young people to question the value of expensive college degrees and explore jobs that appear more resistant to automation.
Pichai Urges Students Not to Abandon Their Dreams
Despite these pressures, the Google CEO does not believe students should abandon their ambitions or switch paths solely out of fear of AI.
He emphasized that there is no single “safe” profession guaranteed to escape automation, and that adaptability—not career choice—will determine success.
“I wouldn’t change how we advise our kids,” Pichai said. “There will be many disciplines that remain valuable. What matters most is learning how to use AI within whatever field you choose.”
