The 2025 data highlights how advanced economies continue to dominate in education levels, while emerging nations show steady progress in expanding access to higher education.
Countries such as Canada, Ireland, and South Korea are at the forefront, with more than half of their working-age populations holding tertiary qualifications. These nations have built strong higher education systems and invested heavily in skills training to meet the needs of knowledge-based industries.
Meanwhile, larger nations like India and China boast the highest absolute number of graduates, reflecting massive strides in expanding university access, even if their overall percentage of degree holders remains lower compared to smaller, developed economies.
Experts note that education levels are closely tied to innovation, productivity, and economic resilience. Countries with highly educated workforces often experience faster technological adoption and stronger economic growth. However, the report also cautions that simply increasing the number of graduates is not enough — aligning education with labor market demand is crucial.
