The Association of Indians in America — New York (AIA-NY) recently hosted its 38th Deepavali festival, relocating the grand celebration to Overlook Beach on Long Island. Thousands of attendees gathered to celebrate India’s festival of lights in style.
The festival featured a rich lineup of cultural performances, spiritual programs, and a lavish display of fireworks along the shoreline. Highlights included a live Ramayana dance drama, devotional kirtan, a heritage fashion show, rangoli & diya competitions, wellness zones (yoga and Zumba), and a Meena Bazaar with traditional Indian food. Over 25 stalls and multiple food vendors catered to the crowd.
Guest dignitaries and leaders addressed the gathering, with several community members receiving honors for their contributions. The event opened with an invocation and closed with a Lakshmi Aarti, symbolizing the triumph of light and prosperity. The evening culminated in a 20–30 minute fireworks spectacle over the water — a fitting finale to a day of unity and celebration.
Organizers emphasized that moving the festival from Manhattan to Long Island was more than just a venue change — it was a cultural expansion, making the event more accessible to people across Nassau and Suffolk. With warm support from sponsors, local authorities, and the Indian diaspora, AIA-NY affirmed its commitment to preserving heritage and strengthening community bonds.
