In a historic cultural milestone for the Indian diaspora in the United States, America witnessed its first-ever Bhajan Clubbing Night in the state of New Jersey, as more than 400 bhajan enthusiasts gathered at the iconic Royal Albert’s Palace in Fords on January 9. The spiritually charged evening coincided with Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, amplifying its emotional and cultural significance for Non-Resident Indians.

The landmark event was conceptualized and organized by Jyotsna Sharma and Tarun Sharma, co-founders of Cultivate Talents Unlimited LLC, a New Jersey–based Women Minority Business Enterprise. The event marked a bold fusion of devotional music with contemporary club-style energy, introducing a format that blends spiritual chanting with immersive musical celebration.

“This event was about redefining devotion for the modern diaspora,” said Jyotsna Sharma, Co-Founder of Cultivate Talents Unlimited LLC. “Bhajans have always united generations. We simply gave them a new expression that resonates with today’s youth while preserving their sacred essence.”

A Concept Inspired by India, Reimagined for America

The idea of Bhajan Clubbing was inspired by a growing trend in Indian metropolitan cities, where devotional music is being reintroduced in high-energy, youth-centric formats. Before launching the concept in the U.S., Sharma conducted a social media survey that revealed strong interest among Indian Americans aged 15 to 65, confirming the appetite for such a cultural innovation.

Organized in association with the World Peace and Health Foundation, a nonprofit led by founder trustees Neeraj Bhagat and Pramod Bhagat, the event aimed to promote spiritual well-being, community bonding, and cultural continuity.

“This initiative beautifully aligns with our mission of fostering peace, wellness, and harmony,” said Neeraj Bhagat, Founder Trustee of the foundation. “The collective energy in the room was deeply uplifting.”

A Soulful Musical Extravaganza

The three-hour-long bhajan jamming experience featured 15 accomplished singers and musicians from the Tri-State area, all selected through a rigorous talent hunt conducted by Cultivate Talents Unlimited. Participants ranged in age from teenagers to senior citizens, underscoring the universal appeal of devotional music.

A special highlight was the All-American devotional ensemble led by Kevin Kalpa Virksha and Pandit Krishna Das Sharma, whose powerful renditions of the Hanuman Chalisa, Shiva chants, and Radha-Krishna bhajans created moments of deep spiritual immersion.

Audience members were seen dancing, chanting, and singing along, transforming the hall into a collective devotional space that felt both celebratory and meditative.

“This wasn’t just a concert — it felt like a shared spiritual journey,” said one attendee. “The energy stayed with us long after the last bhajan.”

Venue, Guests, and Community Support

The event was hosted in the newly built Crystal Hall at Royal Albert’s Palace, a venue renowned for its architectural grandeur and a prominent statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, symbolizing unity and leadership.

The evening drew an impressive lineup of dignitaries and community leaders, including:

  • IFS Pragya Singh, representing the Indian Consulate in New York
  • Diya Patel, Parsippany’s youngest Indian-American councilwoman
  • Padma Shri awardee Dr. HR Shah, Chairman of TV Asia
  • Veeru Patel, Woodbridge Township Councilman
  • Biral Patel, Edison Councilman
  • Representatives from New Jersey State Senator Raj Mukherjee’s office
  • Albert Jasani, Owner of Royal Albert’s Palace
  • Anil Sharma, CEO of 22nd Century Technologies
  • Pandit Devender Shukla, Hindu Samaj Temple, Parsippany

Guests and attendees were served a three-course vegetarian dinner and chai, adding to the warmth and hospitality of the evening.

Celebrating Local Talent

The musical excellence of the night was driven entirely by local Indian-American talent. Music directors Deepak Puri and Payel Das guided the ensemble with masterful keyboard and harmonium arrangements, while Vandana Puri led the chorus and stage direction. Lead singers Aparna Oak and Nidhi Mishra coordinated vocal teams to deliver seamless performances.

Musicians Anil Sachdeva, Hemant Sharma, Monty Lalani, and Rishu enriched the soundscape with multiple instruments, while Aurelia Vibhaw Bhardwaj, the youngest performer, charmed the audience on the manjheera.

Looking Ahead

Expressing gratitude, organizers Jyotsna and Tarun Sharma thanked the guests, sponsors, performers, and supporters — including grand sponsors Anu and Surinder Kumar of Suhag Jewelers — for making the event a resounding success.

“The overwhelming response confirms that spiritual experiences can evolve while staying rooted,” said Tarun Sharma. “This is just the beginning.”

Encouraged by the success, the organizers plan to take Bhajan Clubbing Night to multiple U.S. states, with larger editions already in the pipeline.
