SRK took to social media today to commend the team, writing:

“#Homebound is gentle, honest and soulful. Lots of love and big hugs to the phenomenal team for creating something so human and engaging. You have won hearts world over by making something truly special!”

The film, backed by Dharma Productions, has not only been embraced by audiences but also selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars.

Inside the Story of Homebound

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound is set in a North Indian village and traces the lives of childhood friends Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa). Battling social discrimination and limited opportunities, both dream of becoming police officers in hopes of reclaiming dignity and agency.

Their journey, however, is fraught with emotional upheavals. As exam results and societal pressures intensify, their friendship faces deep tests—revealing the harsh realities that shape their personal and social battles.

Janhvi Kapoor plays a pivotal role, adding emotional depth to the narrative.

The film was produced by Apoorva Mehta, Adar Poonawalla, Karan Johar, and Somen Mishra, with Melita Toscan du Plantier, Marijke deSouza, and legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese serving as executive producers.

A Global Festival Favourite

Homebound premiered internationally at Cannes 2025, marking Ghaywan’s return to the festival nearly a decade after Masaan. The film also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), earning widespread acclaim for its grounded storytelling and compelling performances.

What’s Next for Shah Rukh Khan?

Shah Rukh Khan is all set to return to the big screen with King, slated for a 2026 release. Co-produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, the action-drama marks SRK’s first-ever on-screen collaboration with his daughter Suhana Khan.
