“Mahavatar Narsimha,” an animated movie rooted in Indian mythology, is confirmed to arrive on OTT. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film dramatizes the tale of Bhakta Prahlad and Vishnu’s fierce avatar, Narsimha, drawing from texts like the Vishnu Purana, Narasimha Purana, and Shrimad Bhagavata Purana. After its theatrical release in July, it emerged as one of India’s top-earning animated films.

The makers have officially announced that the movie will stream on Netflix, with the release set for 19 September at 12:30 PM. The film initially opened with modest buzz, but positive audience feedback and word-of-mouth led to massive box office success. It grossed about ₹249 crore domestically and around ₹324.5 crore worldwide.

“Mahavatar Narsimha” is the first installment in the planned Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, which will include future titles such as Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dhawkadhesh (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and Mahavatar Kalki (scheduled between 2035-2037). The director has emphasized the importance of bringing mythological and cultural stories back into mainstream cinema to preserve ancestral heritage. Audiences have praised the film’s storytelling and animation, recognizing its ambition and sincerity, especially as an early effort in this genre.
