Neeraj Ghaywan’s critically acclaimed film Homebound has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. The announcement was made by N. Chandra, chairperson of the selection committee, during a press conference in Kolkata. A total of 24 films were considered for the honor, with Homebound emerging as the final selection.
The film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, portraying the story of two childhood friends from a small north Indian village who aspire to join the police force in pursuit of dignity and respect. The narrative delves into themes of ambition, social justice, and the complexities of friendship amidst systemic challenges.
Produced by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla, Homebound has garnered international recognition, having been screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on September 26, 2025.
