Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan has urged overseas Indian entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Puducherry, highlighting the Union Territory’s growing potential across multiple sectors.
Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day business summit jointly organised by the Puducherry government and the Global Organisation for People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) on Saturday, Mr. Kailashnathan said Puducherry is steadily emerging as a prime hub for business and investment, particularly in education, tourism, and healthcare.
He noted that the administration has streamlined procedures to fast-track the issuance of permits, significantly easing the process for investors. The Union Territory, he added, also boasts strong infrastructure for new ventures, with expansion of the airport, modernisation of sea transport facilities, and highway development projects progressing at a rapid pace.
The Lt. Governor further emphasised Puducherry’s rich potential in tourism, including spiritual, medical, eco, and heritage segments. He cited a survey by Lonely Planet that ranked Puducherry as the world’s second most trending travel destination, after Toulouse in France.
Recognising the achievements of the global Indian diaspora in entrepreneurship and business leadership, Mr. Kailashnathan appealed to them to channel investments into their homeland. Such contributions, he said, would accelerate India’s journey toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy.
The summit was attended by Home and Industries Minister A. Namassivayam, Tourism Minister K. Lakshminarayanan, senior officials, GOPIO delegates, and prominent business leaders.
Over 600 entrepreneurs from more than 30 countries have gathered for the event, with about 100 stalls showcasing a diverse range of products. MSME representatives are also present in dedicated pavilions, offering in-depth presentations on opportunities in their sectors. Additionally, expert-led sessions are being held to provide insights into emerging business prospects across Puducherry.
