Etsy, the global online marketplace connecting millions of creative buyers and sellers, announced a significant leadership change on October 29. Indian-origin executive Kruti Patel Goyal will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) starting January 1, 2026, and will also join the company’s Board of Directors.
Kruti Patel Goyal currently serves as Etsy’s President and Chief Growth Officer, overseeing key departments including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Support, Trust and Safety, Strategy, and Operations. She has a strong track record, previously serving as CEO of Depop, the social-commerce platform acquired by Etsy in 2021, where she dramatically increased gross merchandise sales and expanded the buyer base.
Josh Silverman, who has led Etsy as CEO since 2017, will step down from the CEO role at the end of 2025. Silverman will transition to Executive Chair of the Board through December 31, 2026, to ensure leadership continuity. Fred Wilson, the Board Chair since 2017, will also step down but will remain a Board member.
Silverman expressed confidence in Goyal’s ability to lead Etsy forward. He praised her remarkable success at Depop and credited her with gaining a deep understanding of Etsy’s customers while leading strategic growth efforts that revitalized the company’s performance. “Kruti is fabulously talented and the right leader to guide the business forward,” Silverman said.
Wilson echoed these sentiments, highlighting the thorough succession planning process and the leadership qualities Goyal has demonstrated throughout her tenure at Etsy. He noted Silverman’s remarkable stewardship, during which Etsy’s shopper count more than tripled, gross merchandise sales grew fourfold, revenue increased nearly eightfold, and the stock price surged over seven times.
Kruti Patel Goyal expressed excitement and honor at assuming the CEO role. She emphasized Etsy’s commitment to evolving with customer needs while maintaining its unique human connection, creativity from sellers, and personalized shopping experience. Goyal is optimistic about continuing the company’s efforts to return to gross merchandise sales growth and deliver lasting value to both the Etsy community and shareholders.
With over a decade of leadership experience at Etsy, including roles such as Chief Product Officer and Head of Marketplace Integrity and Trust & Safety, Goyal brings a wealth of expertise to her new position. Her background also includes strategic roles at Viacom, General Atlantic Partners, Morgan Stanley, and Product (RED).
