Netflix India is entering the world of animated mythology with Kurukshetra, a fresh retelling of the Mahabharata set to premiere globally on October 10, 2025. The show will be released in two parts, each featuring nine episodes.

The narrative brings the epic war of Kurukshetra to life through the eyes of eighteen warriors, each carrying their own conflicts, moral dilemmas, and sense of duty. The storytelling aims to weave emotional intensity with the philosophical threads that have made the Mahabharata timeless.

Tanya Bami, Head of Netflix India, describes Kurukshetra as a novel take on the epic—something that stays true to its ancient roots while speaking to modern sensibilities. The series was created by Anu Sikka, produced under the Tipping Point banner (with Alok Jain, Anu Sikka, and Ajit Andhare), and written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly. Lyricist Gulzar contributes to its artistic depth.

This marks Netflix India’s first foray into mythological animation, blending high production values, immersive visuals, and layered storytelling to present the epic in a reinvigorated format meant to engage newer generations.
