BOSTON, MA — On October 15, 2023, TEAM Aid, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization, successfully convened a landmark event in Boston that united diplomatic representatives with over 66 Indian diaspora organizations from across New England. This gathering was not only a celebration of community but also a crucial step in enhancing collaboration with the recently established Consulate General of India in Boston, which opened its doors earlier this year with the intent to better serve the Indian community in the region.

Event Highlights and Objectives

The event was attended by prominent figures including Consul General Raghuram S, Deputy Consul General Shruthi Purushotam, Minister Jag Mohan from the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C., and Mr. Debesh Kumar Behera, Consul at the Indian Embassy. Additionally, Mr. Prem Bhandari, Chairman of Jaipur Foot USA, was honored during the event. The gathering was characterized by a strong sense of unity and shared purpose among attendees, reflecting a collective commitment to effective engagement and service to the diaspora.

Mr. Mohan Nannapaneni, the Founder and President of TEAM Aid, opened the event by articulating the organization’s humanitarian mission, which aims to provide dignified support during crises. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among consulates, governments, airlines, and community organizations to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian efforts. Nannapaneni noted that the event was specifically designed to strengthen partnerships with the Consulate, thereby ensuring a more robust service to the Indian diaspora.

TEAM Aid’s Humanitarian Impact

Since its founding in 2017, TEAM Aid has made remarkable strides in humanitarian support, assisting over 5,000 families across more than 25 countries. The organization has facilitated thousands of dignified funeral services and has built a global network of over 3,000 volunteers who operate 24/7 to provide timely assistance. This extensive volunteer network is essential in ensuring that families in crisis receive compassionate support when they need it most.

During the gathering, Deputy Consul General Shruthi Purushotam addressed the audience, outlining the various services offered by the Consulate. She reaffirmed the Consulate’s commitment to serving the Indian community effectively, emphasizing the importance of accessibility and responsiveness in their operations. Minister Jag Mohan also commended the impactful humanitarian work undertaken by TEAM Aid, stressing the necessity for strong collaboration between the diaspora and diplomatic entities to better address community needs.

Appointment of Honorary Chairman

A pivotal moment of the event was the appointment of Mr. Prem Bhandari as Honorary Chairman of TEAM Aid. Bhandari’s leadership and advocacy within the community have been instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission. In his remarks, he praised the Consulate General of India in New York, under the leadership of Mr. Binay K. Pradhan, as a benchmark for excellence in service delivery. He called for improvements in Visa Facilitation Services (VFS), addressing concerns that many diaspora members have regarding service accessibility and efficiency.

Bhandari further acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the importance of strengthening engagement with the diaspora and fostering a sense of belonging among Indian nationals living abroad. His call for enhanced efficiency in VFS services resonated with many attendees who shared similar concerns about navigating bureaucratic processes.

Commitment to Community Service

Consul General Raghuram S concluded the event by reaffirming the Boston Consulate’s commitment to providing accessible and responsive services to the community throughout the year. He emphasized that the Consulate is dedicated to enhancing its outreach and engagement with the diaspora, ensuring that their needs are met effectively and promptly.

With an attendance of over 250 individuals from diverse organizations and backgrounds, the gathering underscored a collective commitment to humanitarian service and the shared responsibility of supporting one another in times of need. The core organizing team, which included Srinivas Gondi, Anil Kumar Potluri, Ramakrishna Penumarthy, Shankar Magapu, Krishna Majeti, Prasad Ravi, and Srinivas Batchu, played a pivotal role in making this significant event a reality.

This gathering served not only as a platform for dialogue and collaboration but also reinforced the significance of community solidarity in addressing the challenges faced by the diaspora.
