Bimal Roy’s iconic 1953 film Do Bigha Zamin has been masterfully restored in high-definition 4K and is set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival on September 4, 2025. The screening will take place in the festival’s Classics section at Sala Corinto, a former skating rink converted into a temporary theater. Presenting the restored film are Bimal Roy’s family—including his daughters Rinki and Aparajita, and son Joy—and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur of the Film Heritage Foundation. The extensive restoration was a collaborative effort involving the Film Heritage Foundation, The Criterion Collection, and Janus Films, conducted at L’Immagine Ritrovata and Resillion, with support from the Bimal Roy family.
