The 2026 HYPE Conference in Miami brought together emerging hospitality leaders for two days of education, innovation, and connection, as AAHOA reinforced its commitment to preparing the next generation of hotel owners and operators through leadership development, industry insight, and meaningful professional engagement.
The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) brought its 2026 Helping Young Professionals Evolve (HYPE) Conference to Miami, convening emerging leaders from across the hospitality sector for two days of education, networking, and professional development.
Set against the energetic backdrop of Miami’s cultural scene, the conference offered young hotel owners, operators, and professionals an opportunity to explore leadership strategies, operational excellence, and long-term growth while building meaningful connections with peers and industry experts.
HYPE is AAHOA’s flagship annual initiative dedicated to cultivating the next generation of hospitality leadership. This year’s program featured in-depth panel discussions on extended-stay performance and brand positioning, investment strategies through syndications and partnerships, capital and debt markets, and financing solutions through AAHOA Lending powered by Bridge. Sessions also examined the growing role of artificial intelligence in hotel operations, marketing, and guest engagement, as well as franchise agreement considerations and leadership development strategies.
Keynote speaker Raul Leal, CEO of Starwood Hotels, emphasized the enduring importance of the human element in hospitality.
“No matter how much the industry evolves, it is people who define the guest experience. The human connection remains the heart and soul of every hotel,” Leal said.
AAHOA Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel reflected on the conference’s impact, noting that HYPE serves as a critical platform for mentoring and preparing future leaders. Drawing from his own early experience helping manage his family’s hotel properties, Patel said programs like HYPE provide young professionals with the knowledge, perspective, and relationships essential to long-term success.
AAHOA President and CEO Laura Lee Blake highlighted the broader workforce impact, noting that more than one-quarter of young workers in the United States are employed in leisure and hospitality. She said HYPE demonstrates AAHOA’s commitment to equipping this workforce with education, industry insights, and professional networks that support sustainable career growth.
The conference also featured sponsored sessions, including “Red Roof Rising: Fireside Chat – Relationships & Development” and “Hyatt Essentials Brand Development,” providing attendees with direct brand-level insights.
Dylan Patel, AAHOA Young Professional Director for the Eastern Division, said the event offers practical education and direct engagement with industry leaders, creating an environment where emerging professionals can exchange ideas and gain actionable insights.
Similarly, Paavan Patel, Young Professional Director for the Western Division, described HYPE as a valuable opportunity to better understand both the challenges and opportunities within the hospitality industry while strengthening professional relationships.
