Shah Rukh Khan — lovingly known as Bollywood’s King of Romance — may have built his career on timeless love stories, but when asked for real-life marriage advice, the superstar had a completely different response.
During his visit to central London for the unveiling of a new statue honoring the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), the newly married interviewer couldn’t resist asking SRK for tips on married life. Before Khan could reply, his longtime co-star Kajol jumped in with a laugh:
“All his films are about before marriage, not after marriage!”
Khan agreed with a smile, adding that once someone is married, “you’re on your own.” Still, the romantic legend offered classic SRK wisdom:
“Till then, I think I got it right. You must have romance, you must sing songs.”
Kajol quickly chimed in:
“And you must have watched DDLJ.”
A Statue Celebrating 30 Years of DDLJ
The new sculpture of Raj and Simran — one of Bollywood’s most iconic on-screen couples — was unveiled in Leicester Square as rain poured down like a dramatic movie scene. The statue marks 30 years of DDLJ, the longest-running film in Indian cinema and a global cultural landmark.
Fans gathered in huge numbers, cheering as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol arrived. Speaking to BBC News afterward, SRK joked that the statue looks like a “life-size doll,” adding mischievously:
“I think I’m looking very handsome. You’re also looking very pretty,” he told Kajol.
A Tribute to Bollywood’s Global Influence
The DDLJ statue joins the Scenes in the Square trail, alongside beloved characters like Harry Potter and Bridget Jones. Khan said the location felt fitting, noting that London has played a major role in elevating Indian cinema globally.
At 60, Shah Rukh Khan remains one of the world’s most influential entertainers. He recently entered the billionaire club, joining global stars such as Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Tiger Woods. After returning to films in 2023 following a four-year break, he has now teased an upcoming action movie titled King, though he says he won’t be playing James Bond anytime soon:
“I don’t have the accent. And I don’t like shaken martinis.”
Bollywood’s Changing Landscape
Kajol reflected on India’s evolving film industry, noting that the rise of streaming platforms has intensified competition for audience attention. Still, SRK remains optimistic:
“Community viewing will always exist. We enjoy things together.”
For both stars, being immortalized in Leicester Square is a surreal milestone — a recognition not just of DDLJ’s cultural impact, but of Bollywood’s enduring charm around the world.
