Nalin Haley, the son of former U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley, has condemned Vivek Ramaswamy’s recent comments comparing Hindu deities to the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity, calling the comparison “blasphemous,” “disrespectful,” and “a slap in the face to every Christian.”
Posting on social media, he urged Ramaswamy, who is running for the Ohio governorship, to better understand Christian beliefs, especially if campaigning in states with Christian majorities. Haley’s criticism followed Ramaswamy’s public remarks about monotheism in Vedanta Hinduism, where he questioned whether belief in the Trinity constitutes polytheism.
Ramaswamy had said that his faith does not conflict with his political ambitions, asserting he is not running for a religious position in Ohio or the U.S. Amid the ensuing backlash, Haley’s strong rebuke reignited debates on religious sensitivity, identity, and political discourse in America.
The exchange drew widespread attention online, with many questioning both sides’ interpretations of faith, as well as Haley’s own Sikh heritage and how it intersects with his public critiques.
