The U.S. government has entered its first shutdown in nearly seven years due to a failure by Congress to pass funding legislation. In response, the U.S. Embassy in India has issued an important update regarding consular services. Despite the lapse in appropriations, the embassy confirmed that scheduled visa and passport services will continue both within the United States and at American embassies and consulates overseas, “as the situation permits.”
However, the embassy also announced that its official social media account will not be updated regularly during the shutdown, except for urgent safety and security information. Applicants are advised to monitor official channels for any critical service changes.
