In Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch—an expansive salt desert near the Pakistani border—two of India’s wealthiest industrialists, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, are competing fiercely to stake their claim in a burgeoning green energy frontier. This region, often dubbed a “green goldmine,” is now a battleground for massive investments in renewable infrastructure.
Ambani’s Reliance Industries and Adani Group are both deploying capital into solar farms, wind power ventures, and hydrogen projects in the area. Their rivalry is not just about physical land, but about who can lead India’s clean energy transition.
Ambani is positioning his group to play a larger role in manufacturing and green energy infrastructure, while Adani already holds strengths in power generation and distribution. Because of this, Adani’s existing operations in renewables give him an edge in the competition to capture market share in energy sales.
