Controversy in Assam: AI-Powered BJP Video Sparks Outrage Over Fear-Mongering

In Assam, a recent AI-generated video posted by the BJP state unit titled “Assam without BJP” has sparked a political firestorm. The video features scenes suggesting that if the BJP loses power, the Muslim population will become dominant—using imagery of people in skullcaps, women in hijabs, and scenes labeled with terms like “illegal immigrants” and “beef legalization.” The video ends with a message urging viewers to “Choose your vote carefully,” claiming “90% Muslim population.”

The Congress party has condemned the video as divisive and inflammatory, asking the Election Commission to take notice. Congress plans to file a police complaint, alleging the content spreads hatred and promotes fear among communities. Leader Gaurav Gogoi described it as an attempt to stoke communal tensions.

Other critics joined in, including Asaduddin Owaisi, who called the video a dangerous example of fear-mongering and a reflection of Hindutva ideology. BJP defenders argue the video merely reflects concerns over demographic changes and illegal immigration. An Assam BJP spokesperson said that the real issue is with illegal immigrants, not Muslims as a whole, claiming they are shifting the social and political landscape.

As Assam gears up for elections, this controversy has added to debates around communal politics, free expression, and the role of AI in generating political content.
